2020 Colouring and Art Competitions

As you probably know, this year marks  the 400th Anniversary of the Sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers to America.

At the Christian Heritage Centre we have a special display to mark the event, which can be seen when we are allowed to open the doors once again! One of our Spring Lectures was also on the subject (which can be found on this site).

We are organising a ‘Colouring Competition’  in conjunction with this important event in our national history….and we do hope you know of some children who could take part!

While the children have some extra time on their hands during this extended lockdown, they might also like to take part in our annual ‘Art Competition’ this year.

Please note: We would like to encourage children to take part from Schools and Sunday Schools across the country – there are no territorial limits!

Colouring Competition

Our  ‘Colouring Competition’  Mayflower picture has been drawn for us by a dear Christian friend in America. She herself will be painting it and sending it to us to add to the display.

  • The pictures will be judged in 4 age groups…..3 – 4 years. 5 – 7 years, 8 – 11 years and 12+ years
  •  The closing date for the Colouring Competition is 15th August 2020 ( it was on the 15th August 1620 that The Mayflower and The Speedwell left Southampton!)
  • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age category.

You can download a copy of the colouring competition sheet. This can be printed as A4 or enlarged to A3 size if it makes it easier, especially for younger children.

Please enter your  name and age under the picture, and on the reverse print your name, address and email (or name of School /Sunday School) ….and post your entries, marked ‘Colouring Competition @CHC’  to:

Art Competition

The Art Competition is usually linked in with our ‘Local Exhibition’ and is an opportunity for children to draw or paint their own pictures. But this year the subject is  ‘The Sailing of the Mayflower’.

For information, ideas and inspiration, they  will find plenty of sites on the internet referring to this important event in our national history.

· All entries need to be 2 dimensional (2D) and suitable to be wall-mounted. This can include  paintings, drawings and collages.

· The size of the artwork should be minimum A4 and maximum A3

· There will be 4 age-groups:   3 – 4 years,  5-7 years,   8-11 years,  and 12 +years

  • The closing date for the Art Competition will be 5th September 2020 (The Mayflower left the Barbican Steps, Plymouth on 6th September in 1620!)
  • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age category.
