2022 – An Update

This year began  with a visit from a local home school group who enjoyed a morning of teaching and activities on a welsh theme, highlighting the history and progress of the Gospel in Wales. Focusing mainly on the first publication of the William Morgan translation of the Welsh Bible in 1588, and going on to introduce stories of William Williams and  Mary Jones, there was also, as part of the programme, some singing in Welsh, and the usual ‘Exhibition Search’ activity. The younger children enjoyed making movable figures of Mary Jones and William Morgan, whilst the older group experimented with wool felting, and making simple models of William Morgan’s house.

In February, Stephen Ford gave us an inspiring lecture on ‘The Hebridean Revivals of the 1930s’(which can be found on the ‘lectures page’) and in  March, a local historical society spend an evening at the Centre.

We are most thankful for the gift of a number of 16th and 17th century Puritan works from the library of the late Mr David Oldham, known to many as the editor of the Cheering Words Magazine. These volumes provide an interesting and spiritually valuable addition to our ever-growing collection.

Following on from the painting of the outside and inside of the building over the lockdown period, we are at present seeking quotes for the updating of the toilets, to include disabled facilities.

We continue to be thankful for the support given to this work, both prayerfully and financially. We rely very much on the periodic second-hand book sales, lectures, and open days, in addition to voluntary donations,  to fund and sustain this project. Second-hand books are always acceptable and in most cases we can arrange for them to be collected from near or far.

The usual round of activities is planned for this year… a ‘second hand booksale’ on Saturday 9th July, a ‘Cream Tea’ on Saturday 6th August, the ‘Week of Openings’ from 19th to 24th September, and ‘Autumn Lecture’ on Saturday 1st October.

At our Saturday 4th June Opening, during the special ‘Queen’s Platinum Anniversary Weekend ‘ we are planning to have a special display of Bibles, books and artefacts commemorating past Coronations and royal events. 

In an age when many are ignorant of Christian truths and many others think Christianity has had a negative influence on society, it is vital that exhibitions and ministries such as this exist, and are accessible to the general public and the rising generation.
